We was on the road ...
Written by Andy Signer
What would a U.S. trip without a Greyhound bus to use? Somehow this was not correct. That is why we bought a ticket from New York City to Austin, Texas. These are 3000 km in 45 hours for $ 90 each - a bargain and a challenge for the ass!
The start was anything but rosy. The Port Authority Bus Terminal in NYC is pure chaos. None of the employees really know where and when each bus would leave and no such thing as a display panel or a road map does not exist. This led to lengthy discussions with staff and visibly unnerved passengers becoming increasingly unfriendly. Ridiculous for the largest bus station in the country.
However! Somehow we landed on a bus left the New York and was able to begin our journey.
Once again we had a nice view of New York's skyline, before it slowly disappeared into the distance. The rural environment was from hour to hour. The rurality was interrupted in between by a trip to one of the larger cities. The local bus station was a dream compared to the former, and electronic message signs easier to travel a lot easier. The board let a lot to be desired about - luckily I have no problem to feed me Coke and M & M's.
So we left the States Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a good piece of Ohio behind us before we on a Amish family (a Swiss achievement, by the way) met in the bus. An anachronistic image in the rest of America. This was followed by the states Kentucky and Tennessee. The language was changing continuously, it was exhausting and superfluous conjugate was found to be ("We was in Louisville yesterday"). Now we had to pass through Arkansas and only one good piece of Texas and we had already arrived in Austin. I was seldom so happy to arrive in a beautiful hotel and sleep in a bed.
A few pictures are here to see.
